BJJ Gi Sizing Guide
Finding the right gi fit is one of the most important decisions you'll make in your BJJ journey. A gi that's too big becomes a handle for your opponent. A gi that's too small restricts your movement and tears at the seams. Use this guide to find your perfect size across our adult, ladies, and kids ranges.
Adult BJJ Gi Sizes (A Sizing)
Our adult gis use the standard A sizing system. Find your height and weight below — where both columns align is your size. If you fall between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort, or down if you prefer a competition-tight fit.
| Size | Height | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| A0 | 5ft 4" – 5ft 7" | 60 – 65kg |
| A1 | 5ft 7" – 5ft 9" | 65 – 72kg |
| A1L | 5ft 11" – 6ft 0" | 65 – 72kg |
| A2 | 5ft 8" – 6ft 0" | 72 – 82kg |
| A2L | 5ft 11" – 6ft 2" | 72 – 82kg |
| A3 | 6ft 1" – 6ft 3" | 82 – 95kg |
| A3L | 6ft 3" – 6ft 4" | 82 – 95kg |
| A4 | 6ft 1" – 6ft 4" | 95 – 120kg |
What does the "L" mean?
The L suffix (A1L, A2L, A3L) denotes a Long cut — same weight range as the standard size, but with extra length in the jacket and trouser inseam. If you're tall and lean, an L size will give you better coverage without going up a full weight bracket.
Ladies BJJ Gi Sizes (F Sizing)
Our ladies gis are cut specifically for the female form using the F sizing system. Sizes are based on height and weight — the fit is designed to allow full range of motion without excess fabric for opponents to grab.
| Size | Height | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| F1 | 4ft 9" – 5ft 0" | 39 – 45kg |
| F2 | 5ft 0" – 5ft 4" | 45 – 55kg |
| F3 | 5ft 3" – 5ft 6" | 52 – 65kg |
| F4 | 5ft 6" – 5ft 8" | 64 – 77kg |
Note: If you are between F2 and F3, consider your training style. Heavier grapplers or those who prefer a tighter fit should size down; those who prioritise comfort or run warm should size up.
Kids BJJ Gi Sizes (M Sizing)
Kids gis are sized by age and height using the M sizing system. Children grow fast — if your child is between sizes or near the top of an age range, we recommend sizing up so the gi lasts longer and allows room to move.
| Size | Age (approx) | Height (approx) |
|---|---|---|
| M000 | Age 3 – 4 | 100cm |
| M00 | Age 4 – 5 | 110cm |
| M0 | Age 5 – 6 | 120cm |
| M1 | Age 7 – 8 | 130cm |
| M2 | Age 9 – 10 | 140cm |
| M3 | Age 11 – 12 | 150cm |
Tip for parents: Age is a guide only — always prioritise height when choosing a kids gi size. A taller 7-year-old may need an M2 even if the age guide suggests M1.
Sizing Tips
- Gi shrinkage: All Valor gis are pre-shrunk, but expect a small amount of shrinkage on first wash (roughly 1–2%). Wash in cold water and air dry to preserve fit.
- Competition sizing: IBJJF rules require the gi to be no more than a closed fist above the knee (trousers) and no more than 5cm from the wrist (jacket sleeves). If you compete, prioritise a snug fit over comfort sizing.
- Weight training: If you're heavily built through the shoulders and arms, consider sizing up one for the jacket and confirm trouser fit separately.
